CO.TV – Another Free Domain Registrar

One of the first things that a newbie blogger does is register a co.cc domain. Similar to those lines a new service has opened. Called as CO.TV, this is registrar has been made on the same lines as co.cc. They provide free as well as premium (paid) domains.

Free Domains:

Like co.cc, CO.TV also provides free domain for a year. After that, what happens to the domain is unclear, but according to their site, ‘At the first registration process you are able to use your domain name for one year. You may renew your domain from your management panel. ‘ Hmm, needs more clarifications.

Features:

  • Free domain
  • Site Builder
  • Manage your DNS
  • Free MX service
  • Zone Records
  • URL Forwarding

Premium Domains:

CO.TV provides premium domains at a cost of $4.99/domain. But what exactly is a premium domain? Well I found this on their site:

In the domain market “Premium” is used as a definition for the names which has some characteristic specialties and can be used as a brand name. Generally names which has more than one meaning or generic, short and easy to remember are included in this category. The names which are mostly searched in search engines and has high rates as key words also classified as Premium domain name.

At the time of posting this article download.co.tv was available as a premium domain for $92.97

CO.TV Dashboard

With a free account you can register up to 3 domains. Once you exceed that limit you will need to pay $4.99 for each domain.  Or you can pay $199 for premium CO.TV which includes unlimited domains.

The service is damn slow. Even their site has poor uptime record.

@srinivas
Hmm.. Dont know about it. I set up my friend’s blogger blog with its domain, and it works just fine. However when I tried to ise it as an add-on domain, there were lots of problems and nothing materialized. 🙁

Maybe as its a new service, we should wait and give them some space to improve.

gv.vg offers far better service. You don’t have to use your own nameserver. All you need to do, is create A record and point it to your server. 5 free domains – co.tv offers 3.

You could use co.tv, you only need to renew it every year for free.

I think Blogger offers the ability to use your own domain name for a fee. As far as the whole “best free domain” thing goes, I believe it would be a tie for CO.TV and CO.CC as far as DNS goes since you can’t modify DNS settings with a CO.NR subdomain. It’s also important to see whether or not your new domain can even appear on search engines as CO.TV and CO.CC subdomains have been banned from Google (meaning that you won’t be seeing anything.co.cc or anything.co.tv on Google’s search results). If this isn’t an issue, I’d just stick with Dot.TK mainly because it’s the shortest domain and actually is a domain. Paying for your .TK domain will also allow your site to be indexed by Google. Hopefully, this helps. 😉
